Asphalt visitor loops on the D978 above Lac Pavin, 1 197 m, the youngest crater lake in mainland France. The meromictic water is a five-minute walk down from the stalls; Montchal and the Sancy pastures sit in the windshield from the upper bays. Sedan pavement through the trees, no height barrier, no charger on this pad. Day walkers fill the loops until late afternoon. After the last car the crater woods are quiet from the van.
