The congregation was dissolved in 1807 and today the church is used only for burial and commemorative purposes. Swedish monarchs from Gustavus Adolphus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustavus_Adolphus_of_Sweden) (d. 1632 AD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AD)) to Gustaf V (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustaf_V_of_Sweden) (d. 1950) are entombed here (with exceptions such as Queen Christina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christina_of_Sweden) who is buried within St. Peter's Basilica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Peter%27s_Basilica) in Rome), as well as the earlier monarchs Magnus III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_III_of_Sweden) (d. 1290) and Charles VIII (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_VIII_of_Sweden) (d. 1470). It has been discontinued as a royal burial place in favor of the Royal Cemetery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kungliga_begravningsplatsen).<br>It is one of the oldest buildings in Stockholm, parts of it dating to the late 13th century, when it was built as a greyfriars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franciscan) monastery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monastery). After the Protestant Reformation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestant_Reformation), the monastery was closed and the building transformed into a Protestant church. A spire designed by Willem Boy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willem_Boy) was added during the reign of John III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_III_of_Sweden), but it was destroyed by a strike of lightning on July 28, 1835 after which it was replaced with the present cast iron spire.
